Euthanasia

Saying goodbye to your pet is one of the most difficult decision you may ever make in your life.  As veterinarians, we understand the progression of diseases and the suffering that is usually inevitable.  We will assist you in making the decision that is best for your pet and ultimately for your family.

Why Home Euthanasia?

Edwardsville Animal Clinic offers at-home euthanasia in the comfort of your pet's home. A home euthanasia provides a unique opportunity to say good bye, where you, your family, and your pet feel most comfortable. A home euthansia can be especially helpful if you are homebound, or if your pet is large , fearful, or immobile.

What to expect?

Following arrival (this could be in the clinic or at your home) we will explain the euthanasia process to all family members that choose to be present. We will then sedate your pet, allowing you to stay with your pet while he or she falls alseep. It typically takes between five and ten minutes for the sedative to take effect. Once fully asleep a second injection of an anesthesia drug will be administered while you hold your pet.

There are three options for what to do with your pet's remains afterwards:

  1. A private cremations, in which he/she will be cremated alone and the cremains returned back to you.
  2. A communal cremation, in which he/she will be cremated with other pet's and their cremains scattered at Faithful Companion.
  3. You're welcome to bury him/her at home.

This is a very personal decision, and there's no right answer, only what's right for you. Please contact the office for our price list.
